BAVARIAN WARMBLOOD The Bavarian Warmblood ancestor, the old chestnut Rottaler. With the introduction od Thoroughbred, Cleveland Bay, Norman Cob and Oldenburg blood the heavier built Rottaler gave way to a lighter horse, though still strongly built horse averaging 16.1hh. The modern Bavarian Warmblood is an attractive horse, with the traditional Chestnut color. It is deep through the girthand stands on rather short, strong legs with well proportioned bone measurements. As usual, emphasis is placed on the Bavarian Warmbloods temperment, and the horses undergo performance tests.
Bavarians are well-suited for dressage and jumping at international levels. But like many other warmbloods, they are not great gallopers and as a result are less good as cross country horses.
